Property-based testing would likely catch this particular case, but the general problem remains: for any fixed testing strategy, a sufficiently adversarial system can overfit to it. i don’t think one approach is strictly better than the other. if you need arbitrarily nested lookarounds, the oracle-based approaches are the way to go. if you need high performance and are ok with a more restricted form, ours should work well.
